The 7 Top New Game Previews From The Game Awards 2024

It’s that time of year again when The Game Awards always hold the biggest ceremony for the best games to launch in the same year, including their big award, GOTY (Game of the Year). This year was no different. The show included their usual awards for Best Soundtrack, Best Game Design, and more, but what most people look forward to are the previews of unannounced games that are launching in the near future:

Protagonist of Intergalactic

Game: (Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet)

Publisher/Developer: (SIE/Naughty Dog)

Platforms: (PS5)

Release Date: NA

At long last, Naughty Dog’s new and original IP has been shown to the world! Introducing Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet! Meet Jordan A Mun, “a dangerous bounty hunter who ends up stranded on Sempiria – a distant planet whose communication with the outside universe went dark hundreds of years ago. In fact, anyone who’s flown to it hoping to unravel its mysterious past was never heard from again. Jordan will have to use all her skills and wits if she hopes to be the first person in over 600 years to leave its orbit.”

What makes this game appealing is that it takes inspiration from the 80s hit anime film Akira and Cowboy Bebop vibes that truly inspire Intergalactic’s setting. There hasn’t been a release date made yet, but we’ll certainly see and know more about Naughty Dog’s next big game coming hopefully soon.

Structure from Game

Game: (Unannounced Fumito Ueda Game)

Publisher/Developer: (Epic Games Publishing/genDESIGN)

Platforms: (PS5, Xbox Series S/X, PC)

Release Date: NA

Here’s another intriguing game that truly caught my eyes, coming from the brilliant creator of timeless classics such as Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian. Fumito Ueda has joined forces with Epic Games Publishing to unveil yet another artistic and captivating project that promises to resonate with fans of his previous work. Ueda-san left Sony in 2011 but remained dedicated to completing The Last Guardian as his final project under the iconic studio. Now, he has revealed a brand new game that visually and thematically feels very reminiscent of Shadow of the Colossus, featuring a protagonist who climbs perilously high while skillfully avoiding death, just before what appears to be a colossal spaceship erupts in a spectacular explosion. I can confidently say that while this game may not release until probably 2026, it will undoubtedly be worth the long wait for all dedicated gamers.

Virtua Fighter title shown

Game: (New Virtua Fighter Game)

Publisher/Developer: (Sega/Ryu Ga Gotaku Studio)

Platforms: (PS5, Xbox Series S/X, PC)

Release Date: NA

Finally, after an incredibly long and thrilling decade, the highly anticipated next entry in the legendary Virtua Fighter Series has officially been announced! What makes this upcoming addition particularly interesting is that Sega is partnering with Ryu Ga Gotaku Studio, the talented developers behind the critically acclaimed and immersive Yakuza games, which have now been rebranded as “Like a Dragon.” A tantalizing small tidbit of gameplay was showcased during the trailer, but rest assured, there will be much more exciting news arriving soon regarding this newest and latest entry, which is sure to appeal to fighting game fans everywhere!

Okami Sequel announced with live Orchestra

Game: (Okami Sequel/ Okami 2?)

Publisher/Developer: (Capcom/Platinum Games)

Platforms: (PS5, Xbox Series S/X, Switch, PC)*

Release Date: NA

This reveal made me shed a tear of joy. During The Game Awards, there was a captivating moment when a skilled drummer was seen passionately playing on stage, accompanied by a full orchestra beautifully blending their melodies in the background. As the enchanting music swelled, stunning illustrations of black paint, reminiscent of watercolors, danced across the screen in the trailer. After just a few seconds of this mesmerizing display, you finally caught a breathtaking glimpse of Amaterasu gracefully running through a vibrant, lush field, bringing everything to life in a stunning revival of artistic expression. It was astonishingly revealed that the beloved game Okami is now receiving a highly anticipated sequel, and the visionary director behind this incredible project is none other than the exceptionally talented and legendary Hideki Kamiya, who is widely known for creating gaming masterpieces such as the iconic Devil May Cry and Bayonetta franchises. I was extremely happy and utterly satisfied to witness one of my cherished childhood games make its triumphant return to the world, with the promise of a sequel hopefully arriving very soon.

Logo and title for next Onimusha Game

Game: (Onimusha: Way of the Sword)

Publisher/Developer: (Capcom)

Platforms: (PS5, Xbox Series S/X, PC)*

Release Date: NA

Another exciting surprise to hit the airwaves during its unveiling was Onimusha. I vividly recall my experiences and sometimes struggled while playing this beloved franchise on the PS2 when it first launched, as the camera system employed those early Resident Evil tank controls which often made it quite challenging to see exactly where you were going or, more importantly, where your enemies were lurking. However, this latest entry in the series proves to be another significant hit, showcasing Capcom's commitment and enthusiasm for bringing the franchise back into the spotlight!

Title & Logo for Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound

Game: (Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound)

Publisher/Developer: (KoeiTecmo & Dotemu/The Game Kitchen)

Platforms: (PS5, Xbox Series S/X, Switch, PC)

Release Date: Summer 2025

Now for all you old-school side-scrolling lovers who have fondly reminisced about playing the original Ninja Gaiden on the iconic NES, you’ll surely remember, albeit vaguely, just how challenging and punishing that game was. Picture this: enemies relentlessly hitting you while you precariously teeter on the edge of a cliff that’ll send you plummeting to your untimely death, or facing a sheer onslaught of projectiles hurtling toward you as you desperately continue to dodge and hope, against all odds, that you can eventually finish the level in one piece. Well, it’s no surprise that a new 2D side-scrolling Ninja Gaiden is in development, but it still feels a bit surprising to me, especially considering the involvement of Dotemu, the talented team behind the revival of the beloved Streets of Rage franchise with Streets of Rage 4. The stunning animations bear a striking resemblance to those in SOR 4, and the game undeniably retains that original old-school charm that really ignited my love for Ninja Gaiden. I know for a fact that when this eagerly anticipated game is finally released, I’ll probably find myself raging once again at its notorious difficulty, but you can bet that I’m more than down for the thrilling challenge it promises to deliver.

Ciri from The Witcher 4 Reveal

Game: (The Witcher 4)

Publisher/Developer: (CD Projekt Red)

Platforms: (PS5, Xbox Series S/X, PC)

Release Date: NA

The Continent is calling once again! CD Projekt Red has officially revealed The Witcher 4, marking the beginning of an exciting new saga in the beloved franchise. While details are still sparse, the announcement alone is enough to send shivers of excitement through the gaming community.

This new chapter in the Witcher series promises a fresh storyline, diverging from Geralt of Rivia’s legendary tale with Ciri as the main protagonist.

CD Projekt Red has also confirmed that the game will be built using Unreal Engine 5, a shift from their in-house REDengine. This change suggests the game will deliver groundbreaking visuals and performance while giving developers a more streamlined creative process.

Fans of the series can look forward to the immersive storytelling, deep lore, and morally gray choices that have become hallmarks of the franchise. The Witcher 4 is shaping up to be a torchbearer for the next generation of RPGs.

While the release date is still far off, one thing is certain: it’s a great time to be a Witcher fan. Grab your potions, sharpen your swords, and prepare for a whole new adventure!
